I had a very challenging experience when a close family member told me they no longer wanted me in their life. When I asked what I had done, they told me if I did not know and had to ask they WERE NOT GOING TO TELL ME.
Talk about heartbreak and devastation! I was so angry and insulted and MAD! I was so shocked and blown away but I felt there was nothing I could do (Wrong I could forgive the person and keep my heart and mind open to them – but I was too angry to see this option)
It’s hard daily work to keep your heart and mind open to someone who has closed theirs. But each day I practiced and it took MONTHS of self work to come to that place and act of forgiveness. With the help of a Life Coach I began the slow process of figuring out how I was showing up or not showing in this case – and in my life and relationships.
Let’s face it – forgiveness is hard no matter who you are trying to forgive – be it yourself or someone else. We all have this misconception is that OTHERS are supposed to do this – WRONG! How many months/years have you waited for someone to forgive you – instead of being the bigger person and forgiving them?
Are you stuck in your story of being the victim? Does your story bring your comfort and justification to your behaviors? What are you getting out of staying stuck and not forgiving?
Are you withholding forgiveness of yourself? What is holding you back? Is this pain and anger familiar to you?
Forgiveness is a reflection on how you are running your life. How you are showing up or NOT showing up in your life.
Sometimes you need a partner to help you navigate through these murky waters.
