Let’s start with the basics – breathing – you do you know that most of us do not breath correctly and take shallow breaths instead of long deep inhales and exhales? I had no idea that I was not breathing correctly and while dealing with some stressful situations, I was taught to do the following breathing technique:
Exhale fully though your mouth, making a “Woosh”sound.
With your mouth closed, inhale quietly through your nose, counting to FOUR
Hold your breath to the count of SEVEN
Exhale completely though your mouth to the count of EIGHT
REPEAT ABOVE STEPS AS NEEDED
The above steps are easy to remember 4-7-8 and can be done at any place and at any time. I love when I learn practical steps that help me when I REALLY need them.
These steps will not only relax your body but also your mind. Pay attention to how you feel after doing this exercise. This is a great exercise to do before you react to your stressful situation. Calm your body and mind first and then the next steps will come to you.

Take a walk
Visualize a relaxing calming place in your mind
Play some relaxing music
Call a friend
Do some yoga
