Lessons on Self Love
I recently learned a family member did not want to include me in a family event. At first, I was extremely disappointed. I told a friend about my disappointment and voiced my desires to be loved, respected and acknowledged by that family member. My dear friend kindly asked me “how often do you show love, respect and acknowledgement to yourself?”
WOW! That comment really hit the nail on the head. It opened my eyes to the reality that when we point a finger at others, there are 4 pointing back at us. It was time for me to do some internal work. I was not showing myself enough love, respect, acknowledgment and this is why this circumstance was upsetting me so much.
So how do we show ourselves love, respect and acknowledgment?
First we have to recognize that we have not been treating ourselves with loving kindness and that is why we are pointing the finger to others.
Second, now that we acknowledge we are not showing ourselves love, we need to figure out how start. Self love is different for each and every person. Self love to me comes in the form of self care – getting my nails, hair done, facials, bubble baths, massages etc. It is also about mindset work, which I hate to admit, but my mindset process around self love has become a bit rusty.
Third is to actually sit down and create a game plan on paper as to how you are going to accomplish this Self Love Mission. My list looked like:
– Show gratitude with positive messages on Post It Notes on my mirrors and doing Mirror Work.
– Do meditations on self love and self respect
– Blessing that family member for my healing of this wound
– Practice self forgiveness and practice the ho’oponopono ritual
– Write a letter to myself expressing the love and respect I do have for myself.
Fourth is the hard part of actually putting it on your calendar and making a commitment of a specific time and length of time to do this work. Easier said than done right?
Today I am on Day One and it feels great to actually take the steps and do the work.
I hope by my sharing my adventure with you that it encourages you to look inward and take a peak at what areas might need a little more self love in your life.
I would love to hear back from you as to your discoveries and experiences.
Sending you lots of love and positivity your way.
